Goa is a budget destination, es. But if you’ve ever been there and tried getting into a taxi – you’ll probably know what we are talking about. Goa might be super budget when it comes to everything from stay to food to shopping. But when it comes to local travel, it’s a mess. There are no Uber or Olas allowed in the state. The only resort is renting a bike – which is great and cheap if you can drive one. Or if you want to get drunk and do not wish to drive (which is not followed, unfortunately), you need to rent a cab. The cab rates in Goa are extremely exorbitant. There is no such thing as bargaining and you pay what they say.
Goa Tourism Board has finally taken matters into hand and announced the GoaMiles app for taxi services. The rates for these services are keeping in line with the other states – with Rs 18 per km for the smaller vehicles and higher fares for SUVs. The app is already available in stores for download. It connects users to all of Goa.
While the app is definitely a blessing, initially reviews suggest otherwise. Currently, there are not enough cabs available and tourists are often left waiting for long hours or not finding any vehicle near their destination. Also, many users are complaining of glitches in the app. However, considering this is the initial stage, let’s hope things sort out soon. It’s a well begun step, definitely!
We are proud to present #GOAMILES, an app that will make commuting absolutely easy for one and all. Download the app now!
